Homosexuality does seem to have a genetic basis, but it seems to be largely environmental. In the case of lower mental health among gays, stigma can not explain much of the reason as to why they have lower mental health, genes and child abuse are offered as explanations for this. The issue of sexual partners and parenting is discussed, but the research is too mixed to come to a conclusion.
